Girls in Democracy

Girls in Democracy

Project Description

“Girls in Democracy” project aims to bridge the gaps in political and democratic engagement among young women aged 16–25 across Europe. Despite being a significant part of the population, young women are underrepresented in political processes and decision-making. This stems from various barriers, including low political literacy, limited access to leadership training, and minimal engagement with policymakers. Young women also lack opportunities to connect across borders to exchange experiences and lead civic action. To address these challenges, the project will empower young women to become political change-makers by identifying barriers to participation, building leadership, civic and advocacy skills, and fostering transnational dialogue and collaboration.

Key activities include focused group discussions and outreach, development and launch of a tailored training programme of four clusters. These efforts will be followed by a conference on democracy, awareness-raising campaigns and youth-policy meetings with public officials. A key event will be the European Forum in Portugal, where young women from different countries will unite, collaborate and amplify their voices. The project will conclude with multiplier events to spread its impact across regions.

By enhancing skills, creating engagement platforms and supporting cross- border cooperation, this initiative will help build a generation of politically active young women ready to shape inclusive and democratic societies across Europe.
