“EU2YOUTH”: Empowering Youth for Political Engagement and European Values
From June 7th to 15th, youth exchange called EU2YOUTH took place in the city of Kaunas. The exchange brought together 31 enthusiastic participants from Lithuania, Czechia, Italy, Estonia, and Croatia. EU2YOUTH aimed to foster political awareness, engage young minds in the European decision-making process, and strengthen European values through interactive discussions and simulation activities.
One of the primary objectives of the exchange was to contribute to a more politically-aware and politically-engaged youth. The participants delved into an in-depth analysis of the level of political engagement among young people. Through workshops, group discussions, and sharing personal experiences, they explored the challenges and opportunities in fostering political participation.
A key focus for the week was to familiarize the youth with the institutions of the European Union, with a particular emphasis on the European Parliament and its decision-making process. Participants had the opportunity to interact with experts and gain valuable insights into the functioning of the European Union. Through engaging activities, interactive sessions and simulation games the participants gained a comprehensive understanding of how decisions are made at the European level.
EU2YOUTH provided a platform for youth to discuss and exchange ideas on democracy, fundamental rights, and European values. Guided by experienced facilitators, the participants engaged in lively debates, explored real-life case studies, and learned about the importance of democratic principles and the protection of fundamental rights within the European context. The exchange of diverse perspectives enriched the discussions and encouraged critical thinking among the participants.
The youth exchange also aimed to stimulate active participation by providing hands-on experience in decision-making through simulation methods. Participants actively engaged in simulated debates and negotiation exercises, taking on different roles and viewpoints. These immersive activities allowed them to understand the complexities of decision-making, negotiate compromises, and appreciate the significance of active participation in shaping policies.
Beyond the intellectual pursuits, the project also fostered cultural exchange and intercultural understanding among participants. Through team-building activities, city tours, and social events, the participants had the opportunity to forge lasting friendships, exchange cultural experiences, and develop a sense of European identity.
EU2YOUTH successfully sparked participants’ interest and empowered youth for political engagement, fostering an understanding of European institutions, promoting democratic values, and stimulating active participation. The exchange provided a transformative experience for the participants. As these young individuals return to their respective countries, we hope they carry with them the knowledge, motivation, and networks necessary to make a positive impact in their communities and contribute to the advancement of a politically-aware and united Europe.
The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
